ABOUT AKUA
Focused on helping brands show up authentically in culture
I've watched too many brands try to "reach" communities they don't understand—borrowing culture without investing in it. My work helps brands show up authentically, not performatively.
My background spans production, brand marketing, and consumer engagement across the U.S. and West Africa. I've directed content for national television, contributed to script and production development at a production company, and managed social media and customer engagement for a direct-to-consumer jewelry brand. That mix of production and marketing taught me how to build campaigns where storytelling and strategy work together—not as separate functions, but as one cohesive approach.
Now I'm pursuing my Master's in Communication Management at USC, developing work that blends cultural insight with creative execution. I'm particularly interested in how brands can move from being in culture to being of culture—because that distinction changes everything.
Currently I’m building Black Girl Bubble, a digital space for Black women to connect and celebrate community.
